Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

SettleUp ("we," "our," or "us"), operated by Treeport Holdings LLC, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application (the "App") and website (settleupgame.com).

By using SettleUp, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect information provided through your authentication method:

  • Sign in with Apple — Apple-relayed email (which may be a private relay address) and display name
  • Display name and profile avatar selection
  • A unique account identifier (UID) issued by Firebase Authentication
  • An age band indicating which of two coarse groups you fall into: "13_to_17" or "18_or_older". We ask for a date of birth once during account creation solely to confirm this. The date of birth itself is not stored — only the band is persisted to your profile. The teen band exists so we can apply stricter content-safety policies to AI chat for users in that age range; we never share the band with other players or third parties.

2.2 Game Data

We collect data about your gameplay to provide the game experience:

  • Game actions, moves, and results
  • Chat messages in multiplayer games
  • Game settings and preferences
  • Win/loss statistics, ratings, and achievements

2.3 AI Interaction Data

When you play against AI opponents, your game state is processed by third-party AI services to generate opponent moves and chat. This includes:

  • Current board state and resource information
  • Game history and move sequences
  • Chat messages exchanged with AI players (used for moderation and AI response generation)

We do not send your name, email, or other directly-identifying personal information to AI providers along with game state.

2.4 Analytics and Diagnostic Data

If you opt in, we may collect anonymous usage analytics including app launch frequency, feature usage patterns, performance metrics, and crash reports to improve the app experience. You can manage these preferences in the App under Settings > Privacy Settings.

2.5 Voice Chat Data

Premium subscribers can use voice chat during online multiplayer games. When you use voice chat:

  • Voice audio is transmitted in real time through Agora, a third-party service, and is not recorded or stored by SettleUp or Agora
  • We collect voice chat presence metadata (e.g., whether you are connected, muted, or speaking) to display status to other players
  • If you report another player for voice chat abuse, the report details (reason, description, and the reported user identifier) are stored for moderation purposes

No voice audio content is ever recorded, stored, or used for any purpose beyond real-time transmission to other players in your game session.

2.6 Advertising Data

When ads are displayed to free-tier users during gameplay, the following data may be collected by Google AdMob:

  • Device advertising identifier (IDFA, when App Tracking Transparency is approved)
  • IP-based coarse location (used for ad targeting and regional compliance)
  • Ad interaction data (impressions, taps)
  • Ad performance and diagnostic data

Premium subscribers are never shown ads and no advertising data is collected from them.

2.7 Friends, Notifications, and Subscriptions

To support the friends system, push notifications, and subscriptions, we also collect:

  • Friend codes you create, friend requests sent and received, your friends list, and head-to-head statistics with other players
  • Referral codes you generate or apply
  • Apple Push Notification (APNs) device tokens, if you grant notification permission, used solely to deliver turn alerts, friend invites, and game-related notifications
  • Subscription tier and entitlement status, managed via RevenueCat and Apple's StoreKit; we do not store your payment card information

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store, StoreKit (subscriptions and in-app purchases), and Apple Push Notifications
  • Firebase (Google) — Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions, Cloud Tasks, hosting, and analytics
  • RevenueCat — Subscription state management and entitlement validation. RevenueCat receives a hashed user identifier and subscription receipts; it does not receive your name or email. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
  • AI Model Providers — Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (GPT), Google (Gemini), and xAI (Grok) for AI opponent moves, chat, and post-game analysis. Game state and chat content are sent to generate AI output; directly-identifying personal information is not included.
  • Google AdMob — Ad serving for free-tier users. AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP-based location, and interaction data to serve and measure ads. See Google's advertising privacy policy.
  • Agora — Real-time voice chat for premium subscribers during online multiplayer games. Agora processes voice audio for real-time transmission only; no audio is recorded or stored. See Agora's privacy policy.

Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing their use of your data.

Cookies on this website

The settleupgame.com marketing website uses only essential cookies needed to make the site work, plus Google reCAPTCHA on our support form to prevent spam. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies on this website. A small notice on first visit describes this and is dismissable; you can re-open the notice from the "Cookie Notice" link in the footer at any time. Your acknowledgment is stored in your browser's localStorage for six months.

The mobile app does not use cookies; data collection in the app is described in Section 2 above.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the game experience
  • Process AI opponent moves, chat, and post-game analysis
  • Enable multiplayer functionality, including voice chat, friends, and matchmaking
  • Manage your subscription, entitlements, and account
  • Display ads to free-tier users and measure ad performance
  • Deliver push notifications you have opted into
  • Respond to support tickets and bug reports
  • Improve the app based on usage patterns (if analytics are enabled)
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

5. Advertising & Your Choices

Free-tier users may see ads powered by Google AdMob during opponent turns in online games. Ads are never shown during your own turn or while you are actively making decisions.

5.1 App Tracking Transparency (iOS)

On iOS 14.5 and later, we will request your permission via the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt before accessing your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). If you decline, ads will still be shown but will not be personalized to you.

5.2 Opting Out of Personalized Ads

You can limit personalized advertising through:

  • Declining the ATT prompt on iOS (Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking)
  • Resetting your device advertising identifier
  • Upgrading to a Premium subscription, which removes all ads entirely

5.3 Grace Period

New accounts receive a grace period before any ads are shown, so you can experience the game without interruption before deciding whether to subscribe.

6. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time directly within the App from Profile → Delete Account. Deletion permanently and irreversibly removes the following within thirty (30) days:

  • Your profile (display name, avatar, friend code)
  • Your gameplay statistics, ratings, and achievements
  • Your friends list and pending friend requests (sent and received)
  • Your auxiliary user records and referral data

Records of completed games in which you participated, and chat messages associated with those games, may remain visible to other players who shared those games, since they constitute their game history as well. Where required, we may retain limited records to comply with legal, tax, or fraud-prevention obligations, or to enforce our Terms of Service.

Deleting your account does not automatically cancel any active paid subscription. You must cancel subscriptions separately through your Apple ID account settings, as Apple — not SettleUp — manages subscription billing.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data and game history for as long as your account is active. Once you delete your account, personal data is removed within thirty (30) days as described in Section 6, except where retention is required by law or to enforce our Terms of Service. Anonymized or aggregated data that no longer identifies you may be retained indefinitely for analytics and product improvement.

8. International Data Transfers

Our infrastructure is hosted by Google Cloud (Firebase) primarily in the United States. If you access the App from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to such transfer, storage, and processing. We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses where applicable) for cross-border transfers.

9. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure authentication via Firebase Auth and Sign in with Apple, App Check attestation on API requests, and server-side validation of all game actions. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children's Privacy

SettleUp is not directed at children under 13. Online multiplayer features that include text chat or voice chat are restricted to users 13 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

On account creation we ask for your date of birth solely to confirm you are 13 or older. The date of birth is not stored — we record only one of two coarse band strings in your profile: "13_to_17" or "18_or_older". The teen band lets us apply stricter content moderation to AI chat for users in that age range and limit the AI personalities they can play against; we do not share the band with other players or third parties. If a user enters an under-13 birthday, no account is created and no information is sent to our servers; we set a local cooldown on the device only.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us through our support page using the "Child Safety / Under-13 Data Request" category and we will take steps to delete that information promptly. We process these requests within 30 days of receipt in accordance with COPPA.

You can also disable AI chat messages from your child's device at any time: open SettleUp, tap Settings → Privacy → AI Chat Messages and turn it off. AI gameplay is unaffected; only the chat output is hidden.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (see Section 6)
  • Opt out of analytics data collection
  • Opt out of personalized advertising (via ATT or device settings)
  • Export your data
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request its deletion, request correction, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. Ad-related data collected by AdMob may constitute "sharing" under California law for cross-context behavioral advertising; you can opt out by declining the ATT prompt or by contacting us. We do not knowingly collect personal information from California residents under 16 for sale or sharing.

EEA/UK Residents (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights including the right to object to processing, data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Personalized ads require your consent via the ATT prompt; non-personalized ads are served based on our legitimate interest in funding the free tier.

You can manage analytics, crash report, and ad personalization settings within the App under Settings → Privacy Settings. For data deletion, use Profile → Delete Account in the App, or contact us through our support page.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date, and where appropriate by in-app notice. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
